The increase in dengue cases in Costa Rica has raised concerns among authorities and the population. According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, 1,819 cases were recorded in a week, raising the annual total to 29,003 cases, with an incidence rate of 546.2 per 100,000 inhabitants. Dengue has reached alarming levels in Costa Rica in 2024, with a 48.53% increase compared to last year. The Ministry of Health has intensified fumigation and the removal of potential breeding grounds, but community participation is key. It is recommended to dispose of containers that collect water, cover tires, and use insect repellent in high-transmission areas. Additionally, in the most affected areas, wearing long-sleeved clothing and using mosquito nets to minimize the risk of bites is advisable.
