AstraZeneca , the British pharmaceutical company, announced the withdrawal of its Covid-19 vaccine due to a “lack of demand” attributed to the emergence of new variants of the coronavirus. The vaccine, known as Vaxzevria, has been sold in more than 3 billion doses worldwide since the start of the pandemic. Although the company is proud of its contribution in the fight against the virus, the decision was made for commercial reasons amid the shift in demand towards updated vaccines.

Despite saving millions of lives, the vaccine’s reputation was hit by rare cases of blood clots . AstraZeneca highlights that its efforts were recognized by governments and considered essential in the fight against the pandemic, but the emergence of new options has led to a decline in demand for its vaccine, which is no longer in production or distributed.
